MALMÖ FOLK FESTIVAL
Malmö Folk Festival is a collaboration between a long line of organizers, studieförbund, the music academy, music institutions of differenst kinds and more.
We unite and work consciously around gender equality, diversity, accessibility within the folk music genre. We have programs for children, seniors and everything in between!
The festival started in 2018, and is still growing. Below you will find some of the many who have created this festival over the years. We gladly welcome new partners.

WHO WE ARE 2024
Musik i Syd is a regional music institution in Skåne and Kronoberg with the aim of providing people access to live music experiences. Musik i Syd has a cultural policy mission and is part of an active cultural policy with the goal of making live music accessible even outside of the larger cities. Through Musik i Syd's" various activities, music is conveyed at the highest professional level to adults and children in rural areas and urban areas, in schools, concert halls, and nursing homes, through large festivals but also in small and intimate settings.
Together with freelance musicians, their own ensembles, and often in collaboration with local organizers, Musik i Syd annually presents over 2000 concerts in various genres for more than 300,000 people. Musik i Syd also has a well-developed digital stage, Musik i Syd Channel, which makes the experience accessible and deepens it.
The main sponsors of Musik i Syd are Region Skåne and Region Kronoberg.
Malmö Live Konserthus is the meeting place for music, culture, and entertainment in Malmö and the region. With over 800 concerts and events each year across seven venues, there is something for music lovers of all ages. In addition to the concert hall Malmö Live with its stages and lounges, the complex also houses a hotel, a convention hall and conference facilities, restaurants, lounges, a garage, a Sky Bar, a gym, and the meeting place Living Room. The area also features more restaurants, bars, and a food market, and it is just a stone's throw away from bus stops and Malmö Central Station with connections to the rest of Sweden, Copenhagen, and Europe.
Mix Musik has been active in Malmö since 1995. There are endless musical riches in the world and the association's goal is to highlight the music that has difficulty penetrating the media noise. Mix Music's concert program includes local, national and international artists as well as the occasional world star.
At Malmö Folk, people dance, play and socialize around folk music. Malmö Folk, or Malmö Folkmusikförening, is a non-profit organizing association formed in 1991. The association arranges concerts, dance evenings, courses and other activities, with a main focus on Swedish and Nordic folk music.
There are usually four or five regular events during a semester, usually located at Barnens Scen in Malmö Folkets Park, as well as a lot of other folk music events in different places in Malmö.
BARNENS SCEN
Barnens scen is a non-profit association that arranges children's culture in a round yellow house in Malmö's Folkets park. Everything from theater, circus, dance, film, music and literature to adult lectures and workshops are shown here with us. The goal is to present children and youth culture of high quality and varying kinds.

Palladium Malmö is a unique house and a meeting place for music and dance in the heart of Malmö. Each season, a wide range of concerts and dance performances are presented in different genres and for all ages under sparkling crystal chandeliers and beautiful arches with original paintings from 1920.

Studieförbundet Bilda for church and society is one of Sweden's ten studieförbund. Based on the christian view of life, we conduct public education work and offer courses, study circles and cultural programs. The activity is based on the basic view of folkbildning and is free and voluntary and open to everyone regardless of background and education. With support and inspiration from us, people with different backgrounds get the opportunity to meet, create freely and develop. Bilda is a studieförbund for meetings between people. With culture and education in various forms, we want to contribute to meetings arising and new perspectives being created.
Victoriateatern boasts with its beautiful entrance in art deco style on the pedestrian street, right in the heart of Malmö. Here you can experience a wealth of high quality music, culture and entertainment, several evenings a week. The program consists mostly of music, but there is also room for standup, magic and variety. Experience music and performances from all over the world, with everything from jazz and blues, to pop, rock, soul, funk, hip hop, cabaret, classical and folk music. Both international world artists and local acts can take their place on stage. The environment is cozy and intimate, the sound is top class and you can also bring your own picnic to almost all performances.

KULTURSKOLORNA
During the festival, children and young people and their educators from a large number of cultural schools around Skåne gather to play together with one of Sweden's - and the world's - leading folk music bands.
Are you a child or young person, and eager to learn to play an instrument, or dance, or learn theater or something else fun in culture? Contact your cultural school - you will find it if you search on your municipality's website!
Ethno in Rättvik is probably the world's largest and oldest international folk music camp for young people. This year it is 33 years since the camp was started, then at the legendary Falun folkmusikfestival.
Twenty-eight skånska music and culture schools have merged to form Regional Cultural School Skåne. The purpose is to create a more equal cultural school for Skåne's children and young people through collaboration. This can mean joint projects and camps, development of new topics and create in-depth opportunities for the target group. The work also aims to develop the schools through regional subject networks and in various ways provide support for development work and offer further training for staff.
Malmö Academy of Music is a leading educational institution specialised in the study, training, and research of music. We offer solid programmes aimed at students who want to work professionally as musicians, church musicians, composers, or music teachers. With a clear international profile, we move art forward – always with the passion for music and learning at our core.

Folkmusikens hus is Dalarna's folk music center, well established and with a broad and outlook on activities. They spread knowledge and interest about folk music and dance, as an exciting history and as a creative part of contemporary music life.
Arbetarnas Bildningsförbund (ABF) is Sweden's leading studieförbund. They offer study circles, courses, lectures and cultural events in all the country's municipalities.
ARABISKT-SVENSKT KULTURCENTER i Malmö
Arabiskt-svenskt kulturcenter in Malmö work for cultural meetings between the Arabic and the Swedish cultures.
INKONST
Inkonst is an independent venue in Malmö that features performing arts, music, talks and other art forms. We present innovative and contemporary culture that moves outside of the established, obvious and genre defined. We’re passionate about art that push the boundaries, challenge and take risks, yet remain playful, entertaining and fun.
BRITA BJÖRS PRODUKTION
Brita Björs produces folk music, performing arts, and all sorts of musical events. Based in Malmö and on tour with 1 km music, Folkmusikens Queen B, Happy Heartaches etc.
MALMÖ LIBRARY
You are always welcome at any of Malmö’s 13 libraries. Here you can borrow books to read or look at.
There are many books for children and adults of all ages, including books in many different languages. You can also borrow video games and films.
All of our libraries are staffed by people who will be happy to help you to get the best possible experience from your library.
The role of the library is to be accessible to everybody, to be a meeting place for all people, and to be a source of knowledge. Borrowing books and using the library’s services is free of charge.

UNGA is a part of Musik i Syd. We operate in Skåne and Kronoberg with a regional mission to ensure that children and young people can experience live music. In collaboration with local organizers, we annually produce about 1,500 concerts, performances and workshops for about 150,000 children, young people and adults in preschools, schools, libraries and other public venues in our region. The principals for Musik i Syd are Region Skåne and Region Kronoberg.

BABEL
The old church on Spångatan is the cultural center that offers documentary films, stand-up comedy, concerts, and a nightclub! All under the same roof!
A KulturCrew is 5-15 young people aged 10-25, who are involved or responsible for various cultural events. They receive training and knowledge in hosting, marketing, stage technology, and planning, but also in group work and participation. KulturCrew Sweden is located all over the country.
Musik i Syd is looking for groups that cannot go to public concerts themselves through its development center "Musik i vård, omsorg och hälsa".
During Malmö Folk Festival, several nursing homes in Malmö are offered free concerts with folk music of a high artistic level. Concerts at nursing homes are not open to the public.
SKURUPS FOLKHÖGSKOLA
The Folk music programme at Skurups folkhögskola is an education focusing on nordic folk music, ensemble plying - and the joy of playing music!
Skånes Spelmansförbund shall work to ensure that traditional skånsk folk music is preserved, brought to life and become known in wider circles, and to promote the common interests of skånska musicians.
