KJELTRING (NO)

KJELTRING is a young trio from the Norwegian Academy of Music, consisting of Åsmund A. Farstad on violin, Colin Lilius Karlsen on double bass, and William G. Dillner on drums. Since their debut in December 2022, they have performed frequently in Oslo, including at Parkteatret, Ljøsblått and Serendip.
Their music is rooted in Norwegian folk traditions, using violin and Hardanger fiddle tunes as a foundation, enriched with powerful bass lines, intricate drum grooves and microtonal harmonies. Drawing inspiration from traditions across Norway, especially Vestlandet and Valdres, they combine respectful arrangements with jazz improvisation and rock-influenced rhythms and tonalities.
The result is a vibrant and distinctive sound where every performance becomes a new musical experience.

MARIANNE MAANS (FI)

Marianne Maans is a freelance violinist and singer from Turku, Finland, specializing in the Finnish-Swedish folk music tradition. She holds a Master’s degree in folk music from the Sibelius Academy and performs both as a solo artist and with ensembles such as Maans–Perkola–Sandås, Eija Kankaanranta–Marianne Maans and Maans & Puurtinen. Alongside performing, she works as a community musician with people of all ages and has contributed to around twenty recordings.
Bow Waves is inspired by the sea, traditional sailing and the folk music of the Finnish archipelago. Through folk songs and solo violin, Maans creates narrative soundscapes that move between intimate moments and expressive musical landscapes. The work invites listeners on a journey through islands, waters, memories and emotions shaped by tradition and personal experience.

NUKA ALICE (GL)
16.30 // PALLADIUM MALMÖ
Nuka Alice Lund is a key figure in the revitalization of Inuit drum dancing and singing in Greenland. She preserves traditional songs while also composing her own drum songs. After learning drum dancing from Pauline Lumholt in 2009, she created her first original drum song the same year. Since then, she has built a repertoire of original and co-written songs, weaving them together with storytelling in her performances.

Working full time with drum dance, she performs, creates and teaches in order to help sustain this Greenlandic Inuit tradition, which was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2021.
​
She has performed widely, including opening Greenland’s parliamentary autumn gathering in 2017 together with the respected East Greenlandic drum dancer Anda Kuitsi – the first drum dancers ever to do so. Nuka Alice has also opened the annual Arctic Sounds music festival since its launch in 2014. In 2025 she published her first book, Inngerta.

RAGGA GRÖNDAL (IS)
17.15 // PALLADIUM MALMÖ
Ragga Gröndal (Ragnheiður Gröndal) is an Icelandic singer, pianist and composer known for her expressive interpretations of Iceland’s folk heritage. For nearly two decades she has reimagined traditional songs, blending ancient melodies with an intimate, contemporary sound.
Her albums Þjóðlög (2006) and Tregagás (2009) helped revitalize Icelandic folk music. She also composes original works shaped by Nordic folk aesthetics; her 2019 album Töfrabörn was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards.
Gröndal has performed widely across Europe, including WOMEX and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie together with the NDR Bigband in arrangements by Geir Lysne. A new project exploring traditional songs and Icelandic rímur is currently underway.
Performing with guitarist Guðmundur Pétursson, she creates atmospheric Nordic concerts marked by a voice of rare clarity and emotional depth that brings Iceland’s song tradition vividly to life.

THE FORBIDDEN MELODIES – A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO NASHENAS

The Forbidden Melodies is an evening celebrating one of Afghanistan’s most significant musicians and composers.​ Through Nashenas' life story and music, a cultural heritage shaped by resistance and anonymity is reflected – from Nashenas’ early years to the present day, as the music continues to live on in exile.
Come and experience an evening where the forbidden melodies are brought back to life on stage.
The evening begins with the screening of the film "The Life Journey of Nashenas", and a panel discussion on freedom and democracy. This will be followed by a concert and the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to ​Nashenas – who will be present in person.

HOSTIKKA (FI)

HOSTIKKA formed in 2023 and released their debut single “Mahonki” the same year, accompanied by an internationally award-winning music video directed by Jori Grönroos. In 2024 they were selected as a showcase act at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, and their second single “Lähtölaulu” was released in June with a music video featuring actor Antti Peltola.
Their 2025 debut album “aikaa” highlights the band’s signature blend of strong ensemble playing, rhythmic drive and melodic sensitivity. The music is composed by double bassist Saija Hostikka and guitarist–producer Jaakko Penttilä.
Rooted in Finnish dance traditions such as quadrille and waltz, HOSTIKKA’s sound also draws from bluegrass, americana, jazz and world music, creating expressive instrumental music that feels both distinctly Finnish and refreshingly new.

Fromseier Hockings is an award-winning Danish duo from Øksendrup on Funen who, for more than 25 years, have captivated audiences across Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Ditte Fromseier, Denmark’s Musician of the Year 2015, and guitarist Sigurd Hockings create a distinctive musical expression where tradition meets innovation.
As partners both on and off stage, their musical interplay is marked by intimacy, mutual understanding and a deeply present musical expression. Their compositions draw on Ditte’s Bornholm roots and Sigurd’s fascination with Irish and American music, while exploring new musical territories.
Fromseier/Hockings stand out as both keepers of tradition and representatives of the future of Nordic folk music.

Amaro Freitas plays as if every note carries a story. From his piano rise the rhythms of Recife, filled with strength, struggle, and spirituality. His music draws its pulse from the streets of northeastern Brazil and transforms it into a world of its own – a form of jazz that is wild, spiritual, and deeply human. Here, Afro-Brazilian rituals, urban energy, and a constant yearning for freedom meet and merge.

ALBIN MYRIN

Meet Albin Myrin in an intimate concert of Nordic folk music. He is a folk musician with a strong grounding in several Nordic folk music traditions. On Hardanger fiddle, violin and clarinet, he offers tune playing with great intensity and passion.
The concert is a close encounter with Albin’s favourite music. Beautiful melodies and rich variation, all delivered with compelling presence. Albin can also be heard in the groups Kalejdoskop Trio, Västanvinden and VAK.

NORTH ATLANTIC SONG CIRCLE: VOICES ACROSS THE OCEAN
19.30–21.30 // SIR TOBY’S, MALMÖ
An informal, participatory singing session where singers share traditional songs from their own regions and languages.
The focus is on unaccompanied, voice-led traditions from across the North Atlantic cultural space – including the Nordic countries, Scotland, Ireland and coastal North America.
This is not a concert, but a respectful singing circle where participants take turns to share songs. The session is lightly facilitated to ensure flow and inclusivity, with an emphasis on listening, language diversity and artistic exchange.
The format is inspired by the North Atlantic Song Convention (NASC), where it has become a central and much appreciated part of the gathering.

DEN FULE is back. Now even uglier. Years of beauty sleep completely wasted.
Den Fule are true pioneers on the Swedish folk fusion scene. Since their formation in the early 1990s, they have combined traditional Swedish folk music with influences from
jazz, rock, funk, and world music. Expect a vibrant mix of groovy rhythms.
They won a Swedish Grammy in 1993 for Best Folk Music Production with their debut album Lugumleik. Years of extensive touring followed, across the Nordic countries, as well as to places like the USA, India, and Turkey. Now Den Fule are back with renewed energy after a few years of silence, with a new album release coming soon.

For over 20 years, Jeanette has captivated audiences across Sweden and Europe with her passionate playing and deep roots in both folk and classical music. She is currently releasing the album Skåne.

HEKATE’s powerful music and sparkling improvisation will captivate you. Together, they dive into the rich and vibrant world of traditional dance music.
Three voices, each of which has showcased its unique vocal style on stages across Norway, now come together on one stage, using traditional dance music as the foundation of their powerful sound.
Following their debut concert at a club at Riksscenen in Oslo, they have become a hot name in the music scene. In the summer of 2024, they won an award at the Norwegian Folk Music Championships, and in June 2025 they released their debut album on Heilo Records.
