The lecture is introduced by professor Eva Saether, from the Malmö Academy of Music.

Madeleine Modin, PhD in musicology, with a special interest for revivals of instruments and musical instrument collections. She is currently working at Svenskt visarkiv (the Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research), in Stockholm.

ETHNO ON THE ROAD

Ethno is most likely the worlds largest and oldest international traditional music camp for youths. Today Ethno camps can be found all over the world, but it started here in Sweden and yearly attracts over 100 young musicians from almost as many countries.

SÜPERSTAR ORKESTAR

Süperstar Orkestar is a wind orchestra from Stockholm which plays Roma party music from the Balkans. The band has done more than 1000 gigs and got their big breakthrough when Emir Kusturica's Black Cat – White Cat was running at the Swedish cinemas. Serbia and Macedonia have a strong tradition of brass band music. It's an Eldorado for everyone who loves hot, hard swinging and brilliant Balkan brass music. That's where the band has got their inspiration.
